Testnet

Blockchain test network used for risk-free experimentation.

Beginner-friendly explanation

A testnet is a copy of a real blockchain where users can test applications or send fake cryptos without risking real money.

📌 Example:
Before launching a project on Ethereum, a developer tests it on Goerli, an Ethereum testnet.

 Intermediate-level insight

The testnet allows verifying smart contracts, network upgrades, or new features without affecting the mainnet. Testnet tokens have no financial value and are often distributed for free via faucets.

📌 Example:
A DeFi smart contract is deployed on Polygon's Mumbai Testnet to ensure it’s bug-free before official launch.

 Advanced perspective

Advanced testnets replicate mainnet conditions: congestion, fees, scalability. Some projects create 'forked testnets' based on a mainnet snapshot to test in near-real environments. They are critical for secure blockchain development.

📌 Example:
A lending protocol clones Ethereum mainnet on a forked testnet to simulate flash loan attacks before going live.
