Seed Phrase
Secret phrase used to restore an entire crypto wallet.
Beginner-friendly explanation
A seed phrase is a list of words used to regain access to a crypto wallet if the device is lost. It must be kept very securely. Example: Your phone crashes, but you recover your Bitcoin using your 12-word seed phrase.
Intermediate-level insight
The seed phrase is generated when creating an HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) wallet. It allows reconstruction of all addresses and balances. If someone steals your seed, they can access all your funds. Example: Your Ledger is stolen, but without the seed phrase, the thief cannot access your crypto.
Advanced perspective
The seed phrase, combined with derivation paths (BIP-32/BIP-44), rebuilds the private keys needed for multiple blockchains. Its protection can be enhanced through secret sharing (Shamir Backup) or multisig storage. Example: A DAO secures its treasury by splitting the seed phrase among several participants using Shamir Secret Sharing.
